Keim Mineral paint approved systems

Cricketers House is a period property requiring specialist exterior restoration using traditional breathable materials and conservation-approved systems. The existing cement coatings and failing masonry finishes were trapping moisture, causing widespread blistering, cracking and brick deterioration across the curved façade and chimney stacks.
Our brief was to return the building to a breathable, historically correct finish while protecting the structure from further weather damage — without altering its original character.
We carried out a full heritage-led restoration using lime-based repair mortars, mineral render and Keim mineral paint systems, ensuring long-term durability, vapour permeability and compliance with conservation best practice.

why heritage properties need specialist exterior work

Most exterior decorators would have simply painted over this building.
On a heritage property, that would have caused serious long-term damage.
This building required:

  • Removal of non-breathable cement coatings
  • Brick and lime substrate exposure
  • Mineral-based repairs
  • Vapour-open protective coatings

Anything else would have locked moisture into the walls and destroyed the brickwork over time.
This is why listed and period properties must be treated using traditional breathable systems, not modern plastic masonry paints.

Why we use lime render & Keim mineral paint for listed & Heritage buildings

  • Unlike standard masonry paint, mineral paint becomes part of the wall.
    Keim mineral coatings:
  • Bond chemically to masonry
  • Remain vapour permeable
  • Prevent blistering and flaking
  • Provide natural mould and algae resistance
  • Are approved for heritage and conservation work

Combined with lime-based repairs, this ensures the building remains dry, healthy and structurally stable

our exterior restoration process at cricketers house

Cricketers House is a period property requiring breathable, vapour-open finishes to protect the historic brickwork and prevent trapped moisture. The exterior was restored using traditional lime render systems combined with Keim mineral paints, ensuring long-term durability while preserving the building’s heritage character.

  1. Careful Removal
Failed coatings were removed to expose original brick and lime substrates without damaging the masonry.
  2. Substrate Repairs
Damaged brickwork, cracks and historic defects were repaired using lime-based mortars compatible with the building fabric.
  3. Mineral Base Coats
The façade was stabilised using breathable mineral preparation coats to create a uniform, vapour-open surface.
    Keim Mineral Paint System
  4. The exterior was finished using a Keim silicate mineral paint system, chemically bonding to the masonry rather than forming a surface film.

This creates a finish that:

  • Will not peel
  • Will not trap moisture
  • Lasts decades
  • Maintains the building’s heritage appearance
